FAQs

What conditions do chiropractors treat?

Doctors of Chiropractic care for patients of all ages and with a variety of conditions. DC’s are especially well known for their expertise in caring for patients with back pain, neck pain, headaches, and pain in the joints of the arms or legs. We care for patients with a wide range of injuries and disorders of the musculoskeletal system, involving the muscles, ligaments and joints. The benefits of chiropractic care extend to general health issues as well, since our body’s structure affects our overall function.

Why do you take x-rays?

Not all conditions require x-rays, however, based on your health history, consultation, and examination I may recommend x-rays as being necessary to continue with your care to rule out fracture or other serious problems. Also your x-rays are a blue print of you! We utilize them to know and understand more about your condition and use that blue print to recommend a comprehensive treatment plan for you. Unfortunately, there are some very serious conditions that first manifest themselves as back, neck or bone pain. X-rays will also help me to determine the health of your joints and discs and estimate how long it may take to get you feeling better, as well as what specific chiropractic techniques will likely provide the most effective solution for your problem.

What is the popping sound I hear when I get adjusted?

Adjustments or manipulation of a joint may make a mild popping or cracking noise. The noise is caused by the change of pressure within the joint. This happens when the fluid between the smooth joint surfaces is stretched which creates a small vacuum in the joint causing microscopic gas bubbles to be released, and that make the popping sound. The same thing occurs when you “crack” your knuckles. There is usually minimal, if any, discomfort involved and very often patients report an immediate release of pressure or pain. Adjustments feel good !

What is the philosophy behind chiropractic?

Doctors of Chiropractic believe in a holistic approach to healing which is very typical of changing attitudes toward health. It is based on the concept of “maintaining health” versus “treating disease”.

Is chiropractic treatment appropriate for children?

Absolutely – children can benefit from chiropractic care. In our office we have had children that have been injured in automobile collisions, falls from a second story window, play ground injuries, fights at school, falls down stairs, falls off bikes, learning to walk, sports injuries, rough-housing … you get the picture. Most children respond to chiropractic care very quickly because they have not had a problem for years and years like a lot of our patients have before they come in. Injuries they incur may cause symptoms including back and neck pain, stiffness, soreness or discomfort. The care they will receive in my office is always adapted to the individual child and their treatment is very gentle. Lack of care can lead to scoliosis or an abnormal curvature of the spine, degenerative joint disease or arthritis in adulthood or other serious conditions … please have your children checked.

Does insurance cover chiropractic?

Yes – Chiropractic care is included in most health insurance plans including Major Medical Plans, Auto Accident Insurance, Workman’s Compensation, and Medicare. My staff will gladly verify your insurance benefits to determine your level of coverage. However, if you have a plan that does not cover chiropractic or if you do not have insurance of any kind, we have many payment options available to be sure that you get the care you need. We also have discounts for active-duty members of the armed forces, police officers and firefighters along with the other healthcare providers that utilize our services.
